Our approach to case management is proactive and assertive. While we acknowledge exceptions, we believe that adopting an assertive stance on most cases improves the likelihood of favorable results for our clients. By “assertive,” we mean taking initiative rather than waiting for the opposing party to act. We are committed to winning, whether through trial or achieving reasonable settlements in appropriate cases. We are not afraid to go to the courthouse and try jury trials. With years of experience before the licensing boards, we are often able to obtain favorable results in those arenas, as well.
We reject the notion of being passive negotiators who always settle without resorting to trial. Our reputation is built on our willingness to take the fight down to the courthouse and we are very, very good at it.
Moreover, we believe in keeping our clients fully informed about their case progress and status. We are ready to provide formal or informal updates as frequently as necessary. Our approach emphasizes maintaining a reputation for trying jury trials, preparing cases meticulously for trial, and driving cases forward aggressively, rather than merely reacting to the actions of our opponents. This strategy swiftly dismisses unfounded claims and facilitates timely and reasonable settlements of cases that should be settled, avoiding unnecessary expense for our clients. For cases that should not be settled, we are experienced and highly skilled in preparing and presenting the defense of our clients to Texas juries.

MEET THE EDWARDS & ASSOCIATES DEFENSE TEAM
James B. Edwards
Attorney
James B. Edwards received a Presidential Appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He graduated from West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. After five years of service in the Army as an Infantry officer, Mr. Edwards was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law and then worked in the litigation section of the Houston firm of Liddell, Sapp, Zivley, Hill, & LaBoon for approximately two and a half years.
Following this, Mr. Edwards was employed by the medical malpractice defense firm of Ryan & Marshall. On December 31, 1984, he opened his own offices, Edwards & Associates. Mr. Edwards is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law. He was elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has been selected by H-Texas, Houston’s Magazine, as one of Houston’s Best Lawyers and designated a “Super Lawyer” by Texas Monthly Magazine.
Mr. Edwards has a YouTube channel called The Doctors Defense. He has eight videos that provide a wealth of information about medical malpractice lawsuits and the litigation process.
